Continue along a gravel path to the fork, either go left across the river Steyr along a shady path or straight ahead on the sunny side to the village centre of Hinterstoder. Follow the road upwards to the Brunnstein farm. From here the path leads to the left through meadows and forests over a steep part downhill to the Piessling spring. This walk is not very strenuous and offers lots of fabulous views and leads to a natural spectacle, the 70 m deep Piessling spring (the largest karst spring in the northern limestone Alps). Numerous divers have tried to discover the true depth to no avail.. It is supposed that there is a extensive cave system, which absorbs the rainfall in a large part of the Warscheneck area. The return route leads you passed one of the few scythe works still in operation to the work´s inn in Rossleithen. From here you can take the bus back to Vorderstoder. |

Ramseben - Immerlgsoll | | Path no: | 3, 7 | | Walking time: | approx. 1 to 2 1/2 hours | Starting from Vorderstoder turn right at the Landhotel Stockerwirt, follow the mini golf walk (signposted) passed the holiday farms of Grassegg and Mittermair to the small Wurzer farmhouse. Then follow the Ramseben access road pased the Familyland Hotel Lindbichler and the Hubertus Chapel to the Pension Hinterramseben (1,000 m). This path offers you fabulous panoramic views of the mountains, from the Haller Mauern over the Warscheneck range to the Priel. From the Hinterramseben the path no. 3 leads almost level over a meadow and a short part through the forest to a forest path, which you follow for about 150 metres, then you turn left. Here the path is relatively flat through the forest with some clearings to another forest path, which climbs gently past a wildlife feeding point to the Immerlgsoll (1,160 m). The path to here offers excellent views into the Stoder Valley and the nearby Priel. Very often you can also observe chamois here, if you keep still. The Immerlgsoll is an alpine plateau with a beautiful hunting lodge (not open to the public). Please keep dogs on a lead due to the wildlife! To return, you can take the forest path down the valley to the marking no. 7 and carry on down the tar-road to the Gasthof Lögergut and then continue on to Vorderstoder, or you can walk back to Ramseben and then down the valley to Vorderstoder. |

Windhagersee Lake | | Path no: | 2, 4 | | Walking time: | approx. 2 1/2 hours | Starting-point is from the council offices in Vorderstoder. You turn off from the main road after about 600 m at the bridge onto the forest road to the Schafferteich pond, path no. 2/4. At first you walk gently uphill through the forest, then over a small meadow and then for longer again through the forest to a fork (walking time to here approx. 25 minutes). From here you carry on uphill to the right through a forest to an access road, which you walk along to the left slightly downhill. Pass a small house and walk over a meadow and forest part to a stream. Afterwards you come to a mountain hut, pass the Michl-Reith on a forest path, which you follow downhill for about 100, then to the right through a light forest up steeply for a bit, then mostly through the forest, the last part mainly on the forest road to the Windhagersee Lake. The Windhagersee Lake is an oasis of tranquility in the midst of the forest. On the bank is a hunting lodge. Plenty of benches for resting. The water level of the lake varies according to the time of year. The Windhagersee Lake does not have an apparent feeder or outflow river. In dry weather you can walk around the lake. |

Riesergut - Spitzmäuerl - Filzmoseralm | | Walking time: | approx. 2 1/2 hours | You walk from the Steinergut (signpostedl) along the Ramseben access road, turn off right at the Rohregger carpenters' workshop , pass some houses into the forest and over meadows to the Riesergut farm (walking time approx. 40 minutes). You can also stay on the Ramseben access road and turn off right after 1,5 km to the Riesergut. Path no. 5 turns off from the Riesergut tar-road to the Spitzmäuerl. The path leads quite steeply upwards and splits into the footpath to the right to the Spitzmäuerl and into the Karrenweg, leading directly to the Rieseralm. The Spitzmäuerl is a large, high rock with beautiful view. Although the viewing point is well-secured, you should keep an eye on your children! The climb from the Spitzmäuerl leads gently upwards for an hour to the alpine plateau of the Rieseralm (just alpine meadows - no mountain hut any more), from where you can come onto the forest road up to the Filzmoseralm mountain hut (not open to the public).
Another way of getting to the Filzmoseralm is: Stay on the Ramseben access road, pass the Familyland Hotel Lindbichler, some 60 Meter after the Hubertus Chapel turn to the right and follow this forest road to the third bend, where the viewing rock Hirschmauer towers upwards, which is really worth the diversion (fall hazard!). The path to the Filzmoseralm leads along the forest road (passed a small mountain hut) Stay on the road, until you reach the mountain hut. From the very beginning this forest road provides wonderful views into the Stoder Valley and of the surrounding mountain peaks. This walk is particularly recommended in the autumn due to its south-facing location.
Our suggestion: Climb over the Spitzmäuerl to the Filzmoseralm and return on the gentler forest road to the Familyland Hotel Lindbichler. |

Hunger | | Walking time: | approx. 3 hours | From the Steinergut walk along path no. 5 and 6 to the Riesergut, turn off to the right just beforehand and follow the meadow path to shortly before the Saukogel mountain inn. Path no. 6 leads to the Hunger farms over a meadow and then through a forest. At the end of this walk you can enjoy a splendid view over the Garstner Valley. The return route also offers diversity. It is also marked no. 6 and starts off level and then leads gently downhill through the forest and onto a road to the farm Filzmoserreith. The path leads directly through the farmyard (open the gate if necessary!). From there you walk along a steep forest path to the road, which leads uphill to the Saukogel inn. However, if you follow the road down you come to the Filzmoser Chapel, from where you either walk along the main road or through the so-called Torfstich back to Vorderstoder. |

Schafferteich pond | | Walking time: | 3/4 of an hour | From the Steinergut the meadow path leads to the well-visible Schaffergut farm. From there follow the left access road upwards to a car park, where the forest road to the Schafferteich turns off to the right. Lovely circular walk around the lake. In summer the lake is perfect for swimming and fishing. To return choose the path over the dam and then to the left to the Haus Binder (cider bar) and past the Ferienhof Grossgrubergut, back to the before-mentioned car park. Another possibility is to turn right before the Grossgrubergut onto a road approx. 150 metres to the marking no. 4 and to follow this downhill to the left through the forest back to Vorderstoder. |

After the first bend on the left, turn off onto a forest path. Follow marking nr 34, cross the main road to the Stromboding waterfall. Along the main road towards Hinterstoder you get to the bus station in about 20 mins. (turn-off to Vorderstoder). Energetic hikers can walk on the road towards Vorderstoder and after about 10 minutes turn right and follow path no. 1 up to the Wartegg farm and then on to Vorderstoder. Steyrsbergerreith - Huttererböden | | Walking time: | approx. 3/4 of an hour or 2 1/2 hours | From the Baumschlagerberg the path leads over the meadow and then through the forest upwards, cross a forest road to get to a second forest road, which you follow up to a fork and take the right-hand path to the Steyrsbergerreith. This beautifully situated mountain hut in the middle of alpine pasture is open to the public in summer. The path to the Huttererböden leads further along level ground and reaches a forest road (from here follow marking no. 31), which leads you to a fork (off to the left the road leads to the Upper Rottal Valley). You take the right-hand fork to the lower Edtbauernalm from where the path leads from a right-hand bend above the Rötelstein to the Edtbauernalm alpine hut (open to the public). The path continues gently across the alpine plateau to the middle station of the Hutterer-Höss cable car (1,400 m above sea-level). From there you can travel up on the cable car to the Hutterer Höß (1,848 m). You can climb the Höss peak on foot and enjoy the majestic views. From the middle station you can travel down the valley with the 6-person cable car to Hinterstoder, from where you can return to Vorderstoder by bus or with the hiking taxi. The reverse walk is even easier. You take the bus to Hinterstoder and take the Höss cable car up to the middle station. From there you walk via the Edtbauernalm, Steyrsbergerreith and Baumschlagerberg back to Vorderstoder. Walking time from the cable car station approx. 2.5 hours. |

Baumschlagerberg - Wildalm | | Walking time: | 3 1/2 hours | Starting-point for this walk is the village of Vorderstoder. On the main road to Hinterstoder turn off at the Landhotel Stockerwirt. The first path leads downhills at the beginning, crossing the Loigisbach stream. Follow the village walk uphills, pass the "middle station" of the Hackl lifts, where you turn off steeply to the left to the Almgasthof Baumschlagerberg (1,000 m above sea-level) or you stay on the tar-road to follow a gentler route to the Almgasthof (you can also drive up to the Baumschlagerberg). Walking time for both routes is about 1 hour.
To the Wildalm: Walking time: from the Baumschlagerberg approx. 2 - 2.5 hours. From the Baumschlagerberg the path leads at first over the meadow and then throught the forest upwards, whereby a forest road is crossed, to a second forest road, which you follow for about 500 m until you get near a barrier. Here the path splits. As this marked path leads upwards very steeply, you can also choose the more gentle forest road. The Wildalm (1,605 m) is not open to the public, yet offers lovely views. Continue on past the Wildalmhütten (mountain huts) keep to the right and follow the climbing tracks (no more markings), which lead over grazing pastures and through mountain pine forest to the peak. (1,860 m). |

Pass the Edtbauerngut farm after which the path gets steeper, through the forest to the Almgasthof Baumschlagerberg (1 hour walking time). From here you can return back to Vorstoder on the previously described route. If you wish to avoid the uphill part to the Edtbauerngut, there is a driveway just above the farm to the right, passed the Eckhartenhof, to the previously described village path, on which you get to Baumschlagerberg or you can return down into the valley back to Vorderstoder. |
