St. Pankraz, a small village at the edge of the Kalkalpen National Park is the youngest and smallest village in the holiday region but still one of the best known. Place of origin of Hannes Trinkl – the previous racing alpine skier, who started his racing career in 1991 after serious injuries and won his first race in the alpine ski world cup on 22nd December 1993 followed by five more. During the Olympic Winter Games 1998 in Nagano Hannes Trinkl won the bronze medal in the downhill race. The height of his career was the World Champion title in the downhill race during the ski world cup in 2001 in St. Anton am Arlberg. Hannes Trinkl ended his active career as racing alpine skier in 2004. St. Pankraz also is home to the unique Poacher´s Musuem, which displays the history of poaching in a very original way. Cultural scientist and university professor Dr. Roland Girtler designed the exhibition offering insight into the life and romance of the poacher in the oldern days, as is often theme of old regional films. Ski holidays in St. Pankraz offer peaceful times away from hectic resorts and surrounded by untouched nature but close to the ski areas Höss in Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm in Spital am Pyhrn, both well suited for skiers and boarders alike. Further sights are the local church Pfarrkirche des Heiligen Pankratius with the baroque courtyard, a number of small monuments and the natural cathedral, named Teufelskirche. |
