The Kalkalpen National Park-village of Rossleithen is situated in the centre of the Garstner Valley and stretches between the Mountain Ranges Sengsengebirge (Hoher Nock) and Warscheneckstock (Totes Gebirge). Fun for the entire family is offered by the Game and Leisure Park Enghagen. Over 300 animals of 60 different species live in this 20 ha large animal park. Various entertainment options for children are available – a large playground with an autocyle race track and a pond with electric boats for kids. A large natural pond also features a walk in aquarium. Further populare destinations in the area of Rossleithen are the Pießling-Spring, one of the largest karst springs in the Eastern Alps emerging thousands of litres of water per second and one of Austria´s warmest alpine swimming lakes, the Gleinkersee. The blue-green lake surrounded by majestic mountain scenery warms up to 24°C during summer and is a welcome cool-off on hot summer days. Rossleithen made its name due to the many scythe smiths along the river of Piessling in early days. The scythe factory of the company Schröckenfux is the only scythe smith still in operation and can be viewed on arrangement. Due to the formative history of this area , six new „scythe theme paths“ have been constructed, which demonstrate the history surrounding scythes and how it relates to the development of the local industry in an interesting manner. Should you prefer to get to know the countryside on horse, then this is the perfect area for you. Make use of the many marked riding paths in the Kalkalpen National Park or our riding school offering big arenas both indoor and outdoor, including a dressage and jumping area. |
