Austrian Rock Art Museum Spital am Pyhrn

The Austrian Rock Art Museum is situated in the renovated baroque rooms of the former monastery of Spital am Pyhrn.

The permanent exhibition shows rock paintings from Spital am Pyhrn as well as from many other Austrian and European areas.

In an exciting multi media show, TV moderator Sepp Forcher talks about the development of the Pyhrn-Priel-Region, the significance of the Pyhrn pass during the time of pilgrimage, for trade with goods from Venice and iron for sycthe production.

The musuem’s workshop traces the development of writing from rock paintings to the alphabet.

Craftwork, work with gold filaments, jewellery and much more is offered at the museum shop.

1. May - 15. October und 1. December - 30. April
Tuesdays and Sundays from 14h00 – 17h00
Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10h00 – 17h00
