Poacher’s Museum St. Pankraz

The unique poacher’s museum in St. Pankraz portrays the rise of poaching in the alpine region and the heavy punishments these „rebells“ had to expect.

The exhibition also prooves that poaching had a big influence on today’s hunting rights. Developed by the well known cultural scientist Univ.-Prof. Dr. Roland Girtler, it also brings up the topic of the nostalgic romanticism surrounding the time as found in local movies, literature and song lyrics.

The legendary poacher’s battle of 1919 in Molln, in which four poacher were killed, is also portrayed in detail, as well as the legend of the Bavarian hunter Jennerwein and the sensational fate of Pius Walder of Eastern Tyrol, who was shot in the back by hunters in 1982.
