History of the municipality of Roßleithen

Roßleithen is situated in 588 m altitude and encompasses 14,7 km from north to south and 11,1 km from west to east. The entire area of 67,5 km² consists of 61, % forests and 20,4% agricultural grounds.
Originally situated in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the village of Roßleithen belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 the village is assigned to the principality „Austria above the Enns“. During the Napoleon Wars it was occupied several times.
Since 1918 the village of Roßleithen belongs to the province of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on 13th March 1938, the village belonged to the district of Upper Danube. After 1945 the province of Upper Austria was re-established.

Roßleithen consists of the following areas: Roßleithen, Pichl, Pießling, Rading, Mayrwinkl and Schweizersberg.
