Vorderstoder – the fairy tale mountain village

Vorderstoder is situated only a few kilometres away from the Ski-World-Cup-Village Hinterstoder and is one of Upper Austria’s highest mountain villages. The picture book like landscape surrounded by all the prominent mountain peaks of the Tote Gebirge mountain range – Spitzmauer, Great and Small Priel – is a popular destination for holidaymakers. Since 2006 there is a health project aiming at removing negative force fields to enhance the energies in the area.

A place for children…
When it comes to children friendly facilities, then Vorderstoder is on top of the list – be it the SWUWIZ – short for the Stoder valley forest and water children’s playground at dwarf valley, the mini golf hiking trail or the fairy tale rubbing hikes , or the Specialists „Stoder Valley Dwarfs“, who have focused their services towards the needs of families. Children friendly facilities in and around the house, lantern hikes, tractor rides, mystical fables, fairy tales and much more – truly a place for children….

Enjoyable hikes
From easy walks to demanding alpine tours – Vorderstoder offers numerous possibilites to enjoy nature at its best. Hearty snacks and original huts invite for a rest along the way. Destinations like the Schafferteich pond, the Windhager lake, Steyrsbererreith or the Zeller hut are among the most popular.

Slippery runs
If you enjoy ice curling or skating, visit the Union sports field in Vorderstoder or choose one of the two cross country trails.

History of the municipality of Vorderstoder
The high altitude of the small mountain village of Vorderstoder only allowed for limited agricultural output and therefore little settlement in the area. The total municipal area of 3711 ha consists of two thirds forest and rocks and reaches to the Warscheneck in the south.
