Windischgarsten - Tradition meets with the contemporary
The need for speed…
The Adventure Mountain Wurbauerkogel in Windischgarsten offers fun, game and excitement all in one! The chair lift takes you up to the mountain station where lovely local meals are served at the Bergrestaurant. The glass Panorama Tower impresses with views to the surrounding alpine scenery – including 21 mountain peaks with over 2000m of height – and an exciting exhibition on the Kalkalpen National Park. Downhills you can take Upper Austria’s longest summer tobogganing track with a length of 1.5 km. For more fun enjoy the Alpine Coaster which operates in all weather conditions and leads along twisting tracks and over bumbs at high speeds. The 1.4 km long downhill trail is used as a racing trail for mountain bikers once a year and features 15 steep turns and 7 jumps with up to 3 metres.

The Kulturhaus Römerfeld in Windischgarsten – a multi functional event hall – is the cultural meeting point of the area on the one hand, and a popular event centre for meetings and congresses on the other. During the cultural summer in Windischgarsten, a wide range of performances –from classical, cabarets, jazz, rock & pop as well as international music, folks music and various art forms are on offer. During the winter months you can dance the night away as the premises transform into a ball room. Above that traditional annual events like the “Lederhosen” get-together and the small art festival are highlights in the yearly calender not to be missed.

From outdoor or indoor pools, soccer fields or beach volleyball courts, skater park, tennis courts, rock climbin, paragliding or hang-gliding – there is lots to keep you fit. During winter there are cross country trails, ice skating rinks and ice curling tracks or simply explore the nearby ski areas.

In Windischgarsten you will find vibey night life in the various pubs and dance clubs. Especially the music bar „Altstadt“ or the dance club „Tanzcafé Mayr“ are popular meeting places for the younger generations and those still young enough to dance the night away.

History of the market community of Windischgarsten
The Roman Windischgarsten "Gabromagus" (= Bocksfeld) was situated in the southwest of the village ("Hafnerfeld") and functioned as "mansio" (overnight station) of the Via Norica, which existed from the 2nd to the early 5th century.
