The fastest and most comfortable way to reach the 1.430m high pasture is by cable car. The Wurzeralm in Spital am Pyhrn includes the nature reservoir „Teichlboden“ and is the largest low and high moor in the eastern lime alp region and the starting point to many mountain and heighty rock climbing tours.

The international far distance hiking trail, section nr. 20 leads from the bottom station of the Wurzeralm via the Tote Gebirge mountain range, from the Warscheneck to the Great Priel and further into the salt lake district.

A relatively flat circular hiking trail around the moor to the Brunnsteiner lake is perfect for easy hiking and walking. During late spring (beginning of June) and during the summer months, hikers enjoy the incredible variety in flora. The circular hiking trail is well marked and easy to overlook from the plateau of the mountain station.

An easy walk of about ½ hour leads from the Wurzeralm-Almdorf (alpine village) to the Schwarzeck mountain (1.537 m) and offers a beautiful view to the mountains Bosruck, Pyhrgas and to the pasture region of the Arling pastures at opposite side of the valley. From the alpine village pass the Berghaus Wurzeralm in a few serpentines and partly along the lift terrace up to a small plateau, where the arnica plant stands in high bloom in July.

The day hike from the Wurzeralm to the Dümlerhütte alpine hut is also very popular, walking time about 2 hours. Follow along the circular hiking path leading from the mountain station through the alpine village, pass the „Teichlschwund“ to get to the Filzmoos pastures. At the Öhlerhütte alpine hut you leave the circular hiking path in a northerly direction and follow along AV-Trail Nr. 218 to the Halssattel (saddle) and on to the Dümlerhütte alpine hut.

In front of the Halssattel you could take a short cut turning off to your right over steep alpine meadows and through sparse larch and mountain pine fields to the Stubwieswipfel (1.786 m), where you can enjoy stunning views. Walking time from the turn off to Stubwiesalm about 1 ½ hours.

From the Dümlerhütte, 1.495 m / managed from beginning of May to the end of October, you can walk down to the Gleinkersee lake (608 m) or past the Pießling Spring to Roßleithen (706 m), walking time also about 2 hours. It is advisable to take either AV-Trails Nr. 218 or 293 on your descent. Nr. 218 leads to the trainstation in Windischgarsten, walking time about 4 hours.
