A wild and romantic rock ravine named after a doctor in Spital am Pyhrn.
Austria's second longest gorge - Dr. Moritz Vogelgesang was GP in Spital am Pyhrn. As chairman of the BEAUTIFICATION CLUB he made special efforts to ensure that this wild and romantic, over 1.5 m long gorge was made accessible as a hiking path, so the gorge was given his name.
The Dr. Vogelgesang-Gorge was opened for the first time in 1906 and was made partly walkable for the summer holidaymakers of the time. In 1908 the gorge was destroyed by a flood. 1926 -1927 the council of Spital am Pyhrn erected steps and bridges throughout the rocky gorge, which are secured in the vertical rocks. The Dr. Vogelgesang-Gorge consists of around 500 steps. These steps and bridges are always checked thoroughly before the gorge is opened at the beginning of May and well-tended throughout the summer, so that visitors can experience the natural spectacle of the gushing waters safely and without any risk.
This gorge is accessible to all ages from the smallest child to fit senior citizens of over eighty and above. After the exit you get to the international long-distance path (E 601), which offers a beautiful and popular circular walk. If you're worn out from climbing all those steps you can take refreshment in the Bosruck hut, the Rohraue house or have a rest at the Hofalm hut before descending back to Spital am Pyhrn.

Opening times: from May to end of October; on weekdays: from 7.30 am; on Sat, Sun, public holidays: from 7 am
