Start: parking area at the former country inn Gasthaus Grünau/Spital am Pyhrn – along the Klammbach stream (toll hut) – from the Dr. Vogelgesang-Gorge to the Bosruckhütte alpine hut(about 1 hr. 15 min) – further to the alpine hut Rohrauerhaus (1 hr.) – continue to the Hofalmsaddle with beautiful view into the valleys of the Teichltal and Windischgarsten – about 45 min, from the Hofalmsaddle via the Hofalm pasture 1.305m – back to the former country inn Gasthaus Grünau (about 2 hrs.)

Trainstation Spital am Pyhrn – gorge entrance about 40 min.

At the gorge exit you get onto the Bosruckhüttenstraße (street leading to the alpine hut), where the signs of the international long distance trail nr. 601 are also positioned. The Bosruckhütte – 1.036 m is open from the beginning of May to the end of October and from Christmas to Easter.

Trail nr. 601 leads on steadily rising to the next hut, the Rohrauerhaus 1.308 m in about 45 min and is open from about the middle of May to the end of October. On clear days and with good mountain experience you could also take the so-called „Hofersteig“ climb, trail nr. 615, a partly very steep ascent to the 2.244 m high Great Pyhrgas mountain, walking time about 2,5 hours.

From the Rohrauerhaus a rather even and only partly rising path, trail nr. 618 leads along the Pyhrgas ridge to the Hofalmsaddle 1.330 m, where you can enjoy a stunning view into the valley to Spital am Pyhrn and into the Windischgarsten valley, as well as a circular panoramic view onto many mountain peaks of the Totes Gebirge mountain range, reaching up to 2.515 m altitude.

From the Hofalmsaddle trail nr. 614 leads in about 2 hours walking time to the summit of the Great Pyhrgas. About 10 walking minutes below the Hofalmsaddle you get to the Hofalm pasture hut at1.305 m, open from about middle of May to about middle of October. Walking time from the Rohrauerhaus to the Hofalm pasture hut about 45 min. For the descent from the Hofalm there are 2 paths leading into the valley to Grünau or to Spital am Pyhrn. The Pyhrgas trail nr. 614 is a steep forest climb or trail nr 618 leading along a road and from the Finstertal valley, along the forest road on trail nr. 7 as an easier option. The hike into the valley takes at least 2 hours.
