Through the Salzatal valley onto the Wurbauerkogel mountain

Walking time: about. 2 ½ - 4 hrs. (depending on return path chosen)
Level of difficulty: blue
Refreshment stops: Villa Sonnwend National Park Lodge, Bergrestaurant Wurbauerkogel, Jausenstation Wurbauer (on weekends), Mostschänke „Horner“
Starting poin is the former tannery Purgleitner in Linzerstraße (street) of Windischgarsten. From here the road leads past the old age home to the Kalvarienberg mountain.

Walk next to the Salza stream into the valley until you reach a fork, where you continue to your right direction „Patzl“. The valley narrows, continue along the stream and turn to your right in front of the hunting lodge Salzahütte. Now you can choose between a forest road leading uphills in serpentines or a steeper but well laid out climb crossing the forest road several times.

Both options lead to a forest crest from which you continue either on the forest road or along the climb – both paths join a few hundred metres further on – through wood cutting areas and a high forest. Via a field path you get to the farm „Gehöft Großkleiner“. From here continue along a road leading slightly uphills direction chair lift Wurbauerkogel, where you can enjoy an outstanding circular panoramic view. There are several return paths into the valley – take a look at the following trail descriptions on nrs. 1 to 6 and 8 (in opposite direction).
