Pießling-Spring

Trail-Nr: 2, 4
Walking time: about. 2,5 hrs.
Level of difficulty: blue
Refreshment stop: Dorfstüberl, Stockerwirt, Bergpfeffer
Starting point is the municipal office at Vorderstoder. Turn off from the main road after about 600m at the bridge to the forest road leading to the Schafferteich pond, trail nr. 2/4. Continue slightly uphills through the forest, then over a small meadow and again through a forest for a while until you reach a crossing (walking time to this point about 25 min.). Trail nr. 2 leads to your left, continuing through the forest until you get to the Rotbuchner holiday farmhouse.

Follow the markings over the meadow path to a forest path, then turn right passing some single houses and continue slightly downhills to a bridge, after which you turn left and walk down to the valley for about 80 m (wet areas possible) before turning right to walk through the forest again for a while, passing above a farmhouse until you reach a road. Follow the road uphills to the Brunnstein farm. From here the path leads left through meadows and forests and steep down to the Pießling-Spring.

This hike is not very strenous and offers fantastic views leading to a natural spectacle, the more than 70 m deep Pießling-Spring (largest karst spring of the northern lime alps). Numerous diving attempts were not able to establish the actual depth of the spring. It is suspected that this is a wide ranging cave system taking in the rain fall of a large part of the Warscheneck mountain range.

The return path leads you past a still active scythe factory to a country inn in Roßleithen. From here you can take the bus back to Vorderstoder.
