Climb on to the Great Priel

Trail-Nr: 260
Access: 1 hr from the Prielschutzhaus at 1.860 m beneath a prominent nick.
Level of difficulty: black – only with helmet and rock climbing gear entirely at own risk!
Refreshment stop: Prielschutzhaus
The route leads from the Prielschutzhaus in Hinterstoder via a steep access slab and over steep terrain to a prominent nick at the south wall (locomotive). A short vertical climb down, then crossing into the southeast wall of the great Priel (Goldkar wall).

Via a pillar like and mostly vertical difficult lift, then crossing right to the foot of a prominent pillar. Again vertical and partly overhanging pillars up to the “Wandbuch“, then the steepness reduces, walk past the right side of the pillar head, over several rips until you reach the south ridge. The last part of the south ridge is also secured with ropes.

Character of the great Priel: varied climb, not suitable for beginners due to the length, steepness and level of difficulty; exposed and sunny position (south east wall), stunning views over the Stoder- and Windischgarstner valleys; secured most of the way with steel ropes (14 mm) besides a short part after the access slab; partly clamps or ladders; descent along the standard hiking trail (Brotfallscharte) nr. 260.
