The Kalkalpen National Park situated within the Sengsengebirge and Reichraminger Hintergebirge mountain ranges is one of the largest forest protected areas in Austria, covering 20.850 ha and reaching from 385 to just under 2000 m of altitude. You will also find about 50 species of mammals and 80 bird species, 1.400 different types of butterflies and over 1.000 different types of flowering plants, ferns and moss.

Anyone wanting to get away from the noise of everyday life, looking for hidden treasures of nature should come to join us on an exploration through the park. To get most out of the experience, hire a knowldedgable national park guide, offering tours throughout the year. Snow shoe hikes along the Hengstpass, into the Enns valley or to deer feeding spots in Bodinggraben.

The best starting point to an idyllic winter hike through the Kalkalplen National Park is the National Park Hotel Villa Sonnwend with its beautiful and stylish ambience. After an extensive tour enjoy some lovely local refreshments at the hotel tavern or enjoy rustic cuisine cooked on an open fire in one of the wood chopper’s huts and taste our famous Kaiserschmarrn cooked on open fire.
